Gloucester, VA- Ware Academy is pleased to announce the addition of six new staff members. Ms. Haley Beatley will be Ware Academy’s new Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher. Miss Beatley earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in movement education from Radford University. Her educational background as well as her extensive experiences as a performer and choreographer will allow her to conduct research based instruction in both physical education and dance. Ms. Crystal Tucker-Oberlin joins Ware Academy as its new music teacher. Ms. Tucker-Oberlin graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Music Education. Her expertise in music instruction as well as choral direction will make her an asset to the fine arts program. Mrs. Marta Frechette holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Panama. Ms. Frechette has taught all age levels and has specialized in Spanish instruction up to Spanish IV. Mrs. Frechette’s many years of experience will continue to strengthen Ware Academy’s Spanish program. As Ware Academy students enter the 5th grade, they also become part of the Upper School. Mr. John Dixon will be instrumental in the development of their and all Upper School students’ mathematical knowledge. Mr. Dixon has nineteen years of teaching experience in both the public and private sector. His Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute and Master’s Degree in Aviation Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University will allow for more real life mathematical instruction as well as providing a varying component to STEAM activities. Mrs. Lori Goings will join the Lower School staff as kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Goings received her Bachelor’s Degree from Concord University and has over twenty-three years of teaching experience. She has been recognized as Teacher of the Year in the Gloucester County Public Schools, as well as Citizen of the Year for Gloucester County. Mrs. Goings’ kind nature, experience in reading instruction and love of teaching mathematics will create an excellent foundational learning environment for Ware’s kindergarten students. With Ware’s newly redesigned technology program underway, Andy Gardiner will oversee its implementation, as well as act as Technology Administrator. Mr. Gardiner has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Grantham University. Prior work experience has encompassed software engineering, website design, IT development and consulting for a major technology company. His extensive knowledge in robotics, microprocessors and 3-D imagining will be a welcomed addition to Ware’s academic program.
Ware also welcomes 31 new students. Ware Academy opened an additional section of preschool to accommodate the large influx of students this year. “The theme for this year is “one team, one goal” which emphasizes the need for kindness, compassion and cooperation in order to achieve the school’s mission to educate the whole child,” Ware Academy’s Head of School, Tom Thomas, stated during Commencement on September 5, 2018.
