Ware Boys Finish Regular Season in Style

Ware Boys BBall victory

Ware Academy’s Varsity Boys Basketball Team culminated their 2016-17 Regular Season with a big victory over arch-rival Chesapeake Academy on Tuesday, February 7. The victory over the rival Ospreys avenged a razor-thin Overtime loss to Chesapeake Academy at home on January 12. In the second meeting of the year, the Waves traveled to Irvington and led from the opening tip.

The Waves jumped to an early 13-7 first quarter led by 8th Grader Cody Carnes’s 11 points. Chesapeake would mount a strong run in the second quarter to cut the Waves lead to only a single point at intermission with the score being 21-20. Carnes would score four more points in the second quarter to push his total up to 15 at the half. Seventh Grader Pierce Lambert got into the scoring action in the second quarter as well by chipping in 6 points.

The third quarter would see Lambert take over just as Carnes had done in the first half for the Waves. Pierce would bury a three-pointer and connect on three other baskets and knock down a free-throw to finish off an old-fashioned three-point play all in the third stanza. After three quarters, the Waves were clinging to a 31-26 advantage.

Ware would fend off a furious Chesapeake Academy rally in the fourth and final quarter. The highlight was a huge made three-pointer by 7th Grader Josh Ward. The Ospreys had cut the margin back down to two points and Ward’s three-pointer pushed the lead back up to five with just over one minute to play in the game. In the end, the Waves had held on for a 39-33 victory.

Pierce Lambert would lead the way for Ware with 19 points followed by Cody Carnes with 17 points. Josh Ward added 3 points. The Waves will now turn their attention to the ISAC Tournament. On Tuesday, February 14th Ware Academy will play at Aylett Country Day School versus the #2 seed Patriots at 6:15 PM.

The Varsity Girls will also be in ISAC Tournament action on the same day as they play #1 seed Chesapeake Academy at 5:00 PM at Aylett Country Day School.
