A letter about eighth grade student Nevaeh Washington…
Nevaeh Washington was selected to represent Three Rivers Healthy at the General Assembly Building this month. The group gathered with other Healthy Families Directors, the Director of Healthy Families Virginia, and the Director of Prevent Child Abuse Virginia to begin our advocacy efforts. Nevaeh met and spoke with the people mentioned in a poised and mature manner.
We then began our scheduled visits with Delegates and Senators of our service area. We met with 4 Senators and 3 Delegates. During each visit, Nevaeh served as Three Rivers Healthy Families spokesperson. I cannot express my appreciation for the confident and relaxed format that was presented to our legislatures by Nevaeh. Both Delegate Hodges and Senator Lewis commented to me personally that “This young lady is not your usual 14 year old”. (They both have children Nevaeh’s age!).
We then went over to the Capital building and sat in on the House of Delegates and their session for the day
I applaud and thank Nevaeh, her parents, and the educators in her life for the presentation I witnessed yesterday. What a joy to know we have one more great citizen in this world doing good for us all!
