Ware Academy is proud to announce the recipient of the Founders' Scholarship for the 2009-10 school year:

Miss Ellie Gale

The Founders’ Scholarship is named in honor of the original founders of the school. The program was established in 2005 with a full scholarship winner and two half-scholarship winners. In the past, the award was offered each year to a new, rising sixth grader and covered the full tuition for all three years of Middle School as long as the recipient maintained the required criteria.

The 2008-09 school year was the first year the Founders' Scholarship was awarded to a new, rising fifth grader. For the 2009-10 school year the Founders' Scholarship is again being awarded to a new rising fifth grade student, Miss Ellie Gale, and will cover fifty percent of the tuition for each year she is enrolled at Ware and maintains the required criteria.

To be eligible to apply for the Founders' Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A demonstrated record of academic excellence with a grade average of an A- or above.
  • Standardized test scores at the 90th percentile or higher; or advanced status on SOL scores.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • A demonstrated strength of personal character.

Each of a select group of applicants who, in the opinion of the Admission Committee, qualifies for consideration for this prestigious award will be asked to attend a day of formalized testing, interviews and essay writing exercises. Based upon the results from this day and the applicant’s admission portfolio, the decision as to whether or not to grant an award will be made.

Once a student has been named as a Founders' Scholar, the student, upon continuous meeting of the requirements of the award, will receive a grant each year he/she is enrolled at Ware Academy.
