Missoula Children’s Theatre Comes to Ware Academy
(Lower School with their ( Allison Crittenden and Patrick handmade masks) Murphy practicing their lines) Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) provided a week-long residency to Ware Academy last week (Feb. 4th through Feb. 9th). This is Ware Academy’s second time hosting MCT. The shows are original adaptations of children's stories and fairytales.. a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Students from grades K-8 worked for five consecutive days on a full-scale musical – “The Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.” MCT has been touring for more than 30 years, visiting nearly 1100 communities annually in all 50 states, 4 Canadian Provinces and overseas. Their mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique and educational project. The week-long residency began on Monday, February 4 with an open group audition culminating in to two performances on Saturday. The children who were not in the musical were busy all week attending enrichment workshops on set design, photography, production and script writing - all focusing on the story of Robinson Crusoe. Every student had their hand in the production from making props to acting. With an emphasis on educating the whole child, Ware hopes to inspire its students to use the arts to cultivate their creativity reaching across the whole curriculum. The best part of the Missoula Children’s Theatre program was that every teacher and student worked together for a common goal. It was a fantastic week!
