Welcome To Ware Academy

Ware Academy is an independent, co-educational day school for students in grades Pre-K 4 through Eight. Ware is a fully accredited member of the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.  It was founded in 1949 as the Gloucester County Day School with thirteen students in a building on Lawyer's Row, in Historic Gloucester Village.  Over the years the school has grown into a three building campus with playing fields on almost twenty acres.

Ware promotes ethnic, cultural and racial diversity throughout the school community.  High moral and ethical principles, strong academic standards and responsibility for one's self are equally important for our students.

Ware Academy empowers each student to achieve academic excellence, emphasizing the development of mind, body and character. Ware Academy provides an environment that is nurturing, fosters academic and personal growth, and encourages a healthy self-esteem.  The faculty encourages students to express themselves confidently, clearly and critically in all subject areas.  With an ideal student/faculty ratio, teachers utilize a variety of proven learning experiences, emphasizing cooperation and competition while enhancing literacy and critical thinking.  The academy strives for a familial atmosphere that emphasizes friendliness, cooperation and social responsibility.  Parental involvement is encouraged.

An important aspect of Ware Academy education is instilling in its students a sense of responsibility not only for themselves, but also for those around them.  By providing leadership and character building activities, as well as athletics competition, Ware Academy ensures that each student receives instruction and modeling toward becoming a responsible citizen.

Students are selected on the basis of academic potential, without regard to race, color, and religion or national and ethnic origin.  Entrance to Ware Academy is based on the candidate's academic level and aptitude.
