Ware Dominates Conference Tournament
The Ware Academy Varsity Soccer Team finished off their season on Thursday, October 29th with a dominate performance as they defeated Aylett Country Day 8 – O in the ISAC Tournament Championship game. The Waves made their fifth straight appearance in the championship game and earned their third championship in the last five years. The victory gave Ware a perfect record finishing undefeated in conference play. The Waves outscored their two tournament opponents 14 – 0 along with outscoring their conference opponents during the season 17 – 2. The Waves finished the season with seven wins, one loss, and one tie.
In the championship game Ware was led by Kelly Nelson who netted four goals, Patrick Murphy who controlled the play and consistently set up his teammates with scoring opportunities while putting in three goals himself. The Waves played outstanding team soccer throughout the season and it couldn’t have been more evident in the tournament.
Jeremy Herrin, Kyle Blankenship, Marshall Barrack and Mark Wilson consistently challenged the opponents defense with aggressive attacks and shots on the goal. Marianne Warrington, Emily Brown, Macon Swartzwelder, Caitlin Blankenship provided solid ball skills and excellent passing from the midfield. The Waves defense constantly shut down any offensive threats by their opponents during the season and Aylett in the championship with outstanding performances from Kedron Walsh, Sam Spadaccini, Jess Haley, Brett Pausic and goalkeeper Matt Carmine. Ware never lost rhythm as Jae Cho, Maria Spadaccini, Olivia Cross, Sam Jasinski, Conor Hale, Jack Elkin and Owen Curry gave quality minutes of play and brought energy to the field throughout the season.
