Ware Third Graders Win First Prize!

Ware Academy’s third grade class won 1st place in the “Best Group” category at the VIMS Marine Science Day Parade of Marine Life – Saturday, May 22nd! The theme was based off of the jellyfish in the novel, Waterman’s Boy by Susan Sharpe, that they just finished studying.  The students made their “jelly hats” from bubble wrap, fabric and curling ribbon attached to large round straw hats. “The children couldn't get two feet without a bystander wanting to try on their hats,” said Mrs. Kim Ward, Third Grade Teacher.

Ware Fifth Graders Graduate from D.A.R.E. Program

On Thursday, May 19 sixteen Ware fifth graders graduated from the 12-week long D.A.R.E. program. Starting in February, Deputy Cindy Saulman made weekly visits to the class to teach the students about making healthy choices for their bodies and resisting peer pressure through the many lessons and tools provided by the D.A.R.E. program. The students were extremely proud of themselves and the consensus from the class was that they felt empowered because they now have a clear understanding of all the reason why illegal substances are bad for you, instead of just being told not to do them.

 

Kindergartners Release 'Painted Ladies'

On Thursday, May 6th Ware Kindergartners released their Painted Ladies, a species of butterflies, out in to the 'wild' after nurturing them for two weeks through their entire life cycle from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly.
