Fifth Grade

Tracy Pausic

Country projects are due on Wednesday, May 16.  All of the students have a research folder, project information, and have been organized for research.  We will be researching in class; however, our computer lab time is limited so some research will need to be done outside of school.  The students began this week and seem very confident in their task. Some students will be so capable that you might not see any of the project, as they will finish it on their own at school.  Please feel free to ask your child to bring home their research if you would like to see his or her progress.

Upcoming tests: Next week:

The Lower School viewed Dolphin Tale at Hillside Cinemas. The students enjoyed seeing the images of the dolphin "Winter" come alive on the screen.  Please feel free to visit www.seewinter.com.  Our study of Winter's Tail integrated language arts and STEM. Students were fascinated by the actual footage and the actual prostheses that was made for Winter.  Go to the website and check her out!

Diwali

On Friday, February 3rd, the 5th grade enjoyed a Diwali celebration provided by Ms. Glovier.  The students created "rangoli" designs using chalk and sat in the floor to enjoy a traditional feast.  Earlier in the week students designed their own Mendhi hands and enjoyed sharing them on Friday with Ms. Dent, a teacher at the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India.  The children skyped with Mr. Dent and asked many questions about her life and experiences teaching in India. Thank you to both Ms. Glovier and Ms. Dent for their time. We loved it!

The 5th grade students received their first letters from India.  Students from the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India, sent letters and handpainted elephant key chains.  Our students are excited to write back to their penpals who come from Sweden, Israel, Korea, and Hungary.  Their teacher, Mrs. Dent, has shared her experiences living in India with Ware's 5th graders.  If you are interested in reading her blog, it can be found at www.dentsadventure.com or you can check out the American Embassy School in New Delhi.

April

The Washington, D.C. field trip was a huge success!  The students rode the train, visited the National Mall, toured the Natural History Museum, rode the metro, and enjoyed the National Zoo.  Thank you to the parents who were able to go with us.  We could not have done it without you!

The 5th grade visited WTVR Channel 6's meteorologist, Carrie Rose, on Thursday, April 26. The students loved doing the weather on the blue screen and listening to Carrie tell how she became a meteorologist. Thank you so much Carrie!
