Medication Administration Policy Department of Health and Virginia Department of Social Services Students cannot bring any type of medication to school. This includes over-the-counter medication such as cough drops, cold/sinus pills, decongestants, medicated ointments, etc. The school must be notified if you have given your child any kind of medicine before arriving at school. Under the medication policy this allows us as staff to be aware of any possible side effects that may occur. If we are not aware of a medication administration, we cannot safely guard your child in the manner that has been set forth in the policy. In the event it is necessary for your child to be medicated during the school day a parent/guardian must come to school to administer the medication to their child. Under no circumstances can a student administer medicine to themselves, including cough drops. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us safeguard your child and enforcing the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health and Virginia Department of Social Services. |
