GENERAL INFORMATION
The following information may also be found in the Bus/Transportation section of the Ware Academy Student and Parent Handbook .
- The school cannot assume responsibility for students before they board the bus in the morning or after the students depart the bus in the afternoon. The school or the driver must be informed in advance if a student is to be picked up at the stop by someone unknown to the driver.
- The homeroom teacher must be informed in advance if a student rides the bus in the morning but has alternate transportation plans in the afternoon.
- The driver is obligated to operate on a designated schedule. He/she will not be able to wait if a student is late arriving at the stop. The driver cannot wait more than 5 minutes in the afternoon if someone is not at the designated drop-off location to meet a child. The child will be returned to school on the bus and the parent must pick the child up there. Parents who wish to have their child dropped off without having someone meet him/her must sign a waiver giving the school permission to do so.
- Once a student is on the bus, safety becomes of the utmost concern. The student must be familiar with bus rules and recognize that if he/she breaks those rules, it may result in suspension from bus transportation. The driver has the responsibility and the authority to enforce bus rules.
- Students in Pre-Kindergarten 4 through Grade 2 must sit in the front seats of the bus. The school expects older students to be thoughtful and helpful with the younger students.
- When there is a change in transportation plans (e.g., a bus is disabled, a driver is sick, the roads are slippery, etc.) the school will notify parents as expeditiously as possible by telephone. If the bus cannot operate on its route, parents must find alternate means of transportation for the student.
