Earth Day at Ware! Thursday, April 22nd
Ware Academy students spent the entire day beautifying their campus and participating in "Earth Games" that focused on learning about the environment and ways to protect it.
The day's activities were formulated and planned solely by the 8th Grade Captains, who were responsible for organizing everything from planting flowers to picking up trash, to the pie-eating contest. Every student at Ware, from Pre-K to eighth grade, "got their hands dirty." In addition, the entire student body drew an "Earth Day Mural" out of sidewalk chalk on the blacktop out front; each child was able to draw their favorite thing about the earth. The 6th and 7th graders took their efforts to the streets and picked up trash on Indian Road, while the 8th graders mentored the Kindergarteners and together they planted a Dogwood tree in front of Waddell Hall.
The day’s events concluded with a Pep Rally and the most popular activity of the day--the pie- eating Contest. The piece d’resistance was the celebratory pie toss—right into the faces of Mr. Thomas, Head of School, and Mr. Ed Gardiner, Middle School Science Teacher. The children were delighted at the fun—their cheers and laughter could be heard all over campus! Special thanks to LOWE'S of Gloucester, Tidewater Tropical Greenhouses and Green Planters for all of the flowers and plants!
